The driving theory test basic vehicle checks and how your car will revenge
if you do not give it the attention it craves. There are a number of basic vehicle check points you should be aware of, the image to the left illustrates five of them as follows: lights, horn, windscreen washer & wipers, seatbelt and tyre tread
depth. Further points of maintenance will be covered in a later post but for now, know that the good condition of all these basic points are a legal
requirement.
Let's take a closer look at tyre pressure now. A good way to see if a car is
running on low tyre pressure is to look for sufficient tread depth across the central three quarters of the tyre, as required by law. If there is not then either the tyres have been running with low pressure or the driver has been taking corners like
Jenson Button. Another way to detect low tyre pressure is to feel for it, by this I don't mean giving the tyre a massage but feeling for heavy steering whilst driving. One further way to feel low tyre pressure is through the pain of money disappearing from your wallet, low pressure translates into higher fuel usage. Always check your tyre pressure whilst your tyres are cold.
Tyre tread depth is another legal requirement
and must be at least
1.6mm deep. A memory tip from 'The Demon Road' now. Imagine your tyres
being made of liquorice and the tread depth as sweet sixteen. The monkey seen biting the tyre in the thumbnail image above is wearing a
sweet sixteen prom dress, this association is powerful and you are not likely to
forget it, or the UK legal tread depth, any time soon. If you want to see this image, and others, in their true colour and size look out for
'The Demon Road: A Theory Test Novel', released June 1. Next time, more on journey preparations and legal’s...
